In the recent times in some quieter area of the Annapurnas, the Kopra Ridge Trek has blossomed as a sought-after trek. Like any other popular treks in Nepal you can enjoy the experience of a true trek in the Himalayas. You’d be traversing through quaint villages, forests, wildlife and varied terrains. The views of the Himalayan peaks like Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South and Fang from the Kopra ridge are just superb. From Ghandruk the views of the Macchhapuchhare (Fishtail) and Mt. Huinchuli are amazing.
Take the spectacular flight to Pokhara from Kathmandu you’d see lovely, panoramic view of the Himalayan mountains. The trek to Kopra Ridge commences trekking through the foothills of the Annapurna passing through villages and terraced fields. There is a large, Gurung village you’d pass by en route which is worth visiting and fascinating. Walking through rhododendron and oak forests is just amazing during the spring. After, Tadapani you’d walk along a remote trail that is less busy and remote. This is the time you’d get the local experience and their warm hospitality staying at the community lodges en route. Once you’d reach the highest point at 3660 m at the Kopra Lodge from where you can enjoy the stunning sunrise across the panorama of Himalayan, snow-capped mountains.The Kopra Ridge Trek is a trek in Nepal that is worth undertaking for a real, local experience. A wave of mountain air welcomes you, as you get off the airplane. Look out for your name on a placard, held by one of our friendly Wind Horse representative. The short drive to your hotel, takes you across the city, our crazy traffic system here will keep you amused all along.
Take a shower. Later in the afternoon, join us for a pre-trip discussion in our office for the last minute preparation before the trek. Here you can meet your trek leader as well as other members of the group. If there are any questions you can ask the trek leader and also the management. If time permits, you can take a walk amongst the crowd of people, the Nepalese are a friendly lot and they will definitely return a greeting if you pass one. Walk down the narrow lanes and observe the deep rooted beliefs of the people. This is truly depicted by the ancient altars and shrines that stand next to modern structures. The city is bustling with contemporary life and ethnic values; it is a city unlike any other. So have a good night sleep and feel fresh to begin the adventure the next day. Following breakfast you’d be transferred to domestic airport for flight to Pokhara. Then, you’d be driving to Syauli Bazaar which takes 2 hrs to reach the place, and you’d commence the trek Ghandruk walking along the trail of the Modi River uphill to reach this Gurung village, so you’d enjoy the beautiful views of Hiunchuli, Annapurna South, Machhapuchhare from here. Overnight in Ghandruk.
Altitude: 2,590m/8,288 ft| Trek 3-4 hrs
After you’ve had a hearty breakfast, it’s time to burn off some calories walking uphill, first reaching Deorali, then trekking through a forests of rhododendron crossing a small pass to reach Tadapani, this where you’d be halting for the night. Overnight in Tadapani.
Altitude: 3,510m/11,232 ft| Trek 4- 5 hours
Today you’d be walking away from the main trail reaching a more quiet and remote area of the Annapurna region. You’d be staying at the community lodges for the next couple of days and experience the warm hospitality of the locals. Of course walking through rhododendron and oak forests can be a lovely walk which is a trail used by the villagers of Ghandruk during the summers to take their sheep, goats, buffaloes on the higher pastures. You’d carry on walking uphill above the tree line along a ridge connecting to Deurali- a small pass. Then we’d reach a large clearing at Baisi Kharka (Do Bato) after passing many clearings with several deserted huts. You’d get see the lovely views of Machhapuchhare, Annapurna South on a clear day from Dobato- your final destination of the day. Overnight in Baisi Kharka.
Altitude: 2,975m/9520ft|Trek 4-5 hours
Following breakfast, you’d be walking downhill via beautiful forest and open ground to reach the grasslands of lower Chistibung. Then, the trail ascends on a grassy slope passing through pasture where you can see lots of dzo grazing (hybrid of yak and cow), if you are fortunate the colorful pheasant (danphe, National bird of Nepal) or even a Himalayan tahr can be spotted in the area. Traverisng through forests, you’d finally reach Upper Chistibung where you’d staying for the night. Overninght in Upper Chistinbung.
Altitude: 3,660m/11,712ft| Trek 3-4 hrs
After breakfast, get ready for an uphill trail passing through pastures and alpine meadows. Walking along the trail you’d get to see the tip of Annapurna South as you head towards the Khopra Ridge. Once you reach the Kopra Community Lodge you’d see the superb, panoramic views of mountains like Nilgiri, Annapurna South and Dhaulagiri. There is more to explore visiting a viewpoint a short downhill walk from the Kopra ridge overlooking the valley of the Kali Gandaki River. Your stay would be at the community lodge in Khopra. Overnight in Khopra Ridge.
Altitude: 4500m/14,400ft| Trek 10-11 hrs
Following breakfast, you can walk to the Kaire Lake, from here the views of mountains like Nilgiri and Fang are superb. It’s going to be a long walk today to reach the lake and return to Khopra. So be ready for real some good calorie burner. You can see many Buddhist and Hindu shrines around the lake since it holds a religious significance. For those who want to walk less can opt for short walks exploring the vicinity. Overnight in Khopra Ridge.
Altitude: 2,200m/7040ft| Trek 4-5 hrs
Today you’d be walking down a steep trail, and enjoying the lovely views of Mt. Dhaulagiri en route. You’d be traversing through quaint villages and terraced fields. You can stop by the Swanta Primary School which a school funded by the community lodges. So, you’d be staying at the Swanta village for the night. Overnight in Swanta.
Altitude: 3,300m/10560ft| Trek 7-8 hrs
Following breakfast, you’d be walking off the beaten trail passing through rhododendron forests, tidy terraces and attractive villages. Meeting friendly locals en route can be an interesting interaction for you to experience the local authenticity of the trek. Before you reach Mohare Danda you climb up a steep section along with some mixed flat and downhill trails. Enjoy the lovely mountain views of Dhaulagiri range ((8167m) high, Annapurna range (8091m), Manaslu Himal (8163m) at sunset. The panoramic view of the stunning landscapes surely should not be missed- get your cameras ready! So spend your time enjoying the superb mountain vistas atop Mohare Danda (Hill). Overnight in Mohare Danda.
Altitude: 2,050m/6560ft| Trek 5-6 hours
If you wake up early there is the chance for you to see the lovely sunrise over the snow-capped mountains. Certainly, it’s worth to capture the beautiful views of the mountains with the golden hue in the early morning hour. Already having had a wonderful morning greeting from the sunrise over the Himalayas it’s time to head for breakfast. Then, you’d trek towards village of Ulleri passing through forests of rhododendrons. The final destination of the day would be in Ulleri. Overnight in Ulleri.
Drive 1 hr| Trek 4-5 hours trek
Following breakfast, get ready for some tests for your knees walking down the 3280 stone steps. You’d be trekking through a narrow valley and some villages like Hille, Sudame, and Birethanti. It’s indeed fun to walk through those villages with a lot to see the local lifestyle. Then you’d reach Nayapul, where your vehicle would be waiting for you back to Pokhara. Overnight in Pokhara.
Altitude: 1300m/4,264ft | Drive 6-7 hrs
Following an early breakfast, get ready to drive back to Kathmandu on a tourist bus. Enjoy the drive which is indeed fantastic passing by beautiful Nepalese countryside of little towns, river and villages. Once you reach Kathmandu, check in at your hotel. Free to explore on your own, indulge in some last minute shopping or visit some UNESCO Heritage Sites in Kathmandu Valley. It’s time to get triumphant of your journey, so a farewell dinner in the evening will be arranged for you. Overnight in Kathmandu.
